Lawmakers second motion to implement crime reduction programme as soon as possible

Lawmakers seconded a proposal urging the Union government to implement a crime reduction programme as soon as possible during a Pyithu Hluttaw session on August 16, 2016. U Phone Myint Aung of DaikU Constituency claimed out that political, economic, social and moral decline are the causes of criminal offences and the lack of rule of law is a major cause of crime out breaks in the country. Expressing his support for the proposal, the MP stressed the need of the rule of law to reduce crime rate that can undermine the country’s investment sector and long term development, saying that the onus is upon the police members to take harsh measures against crime. Daw Nann Than Than Lwin of Hpa-an Constituency also seconded the proposal, saying that criminal cases committed by those under the influence of alcohol or drug have been seen even in Yangon. She also pointed out that many sexual abuse and human trafficking cases facing young women in border

areas were reported. Next, a question and answer session followed, with Deputy Minister for Planning and Finance U Maung Maung Win elaborating on the development of planning and annual budgets based on the country’s financial policy that includes taxation policy and expenditure policy.
