The second Pyithu Hluttaw’s second regular session continued into its second day with lawmakers holding discussions on public health services and other parliamentary activities yesterday.
Regarding a question on whether there is a plan to build a 100-bed hospital in Dagon Myothit (South) Township, Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htway replied that the already-built 25-bed hospital will be upgraded into a 50-bed with eight specialized treatment services during this fiscal year.
The Union minister pointed out that the township, formed with 32 wards and with a population of 296,979, has one township hospital, one station hospital, two regional health centres and two rural health centres providing health care services to the local people while the 500-bed Thingangyun-Sanpya Hospital is situated to the west of the township and the 200-bed Thanlyin District Hospital to the south.
Next, the Union minister pledged to upgrade the 25-bed hospital in Mong Pyin Township into a 50-bed centre while responding to a question from Pyithu Hluttaw representative U Sai Tun Sein.
He added that all 25-bed health facilities in regions and states are set to be upgraded into 50-bed centres under the National Plan running from 2016-2017 FY to 2020-2021 FY.
The Pyithu Hluttaw approved the amendment bill to the Anti-Corruption Law sent by Amyotha Hluttaw with amendments.
Afterwards, Moenyin Township Pyithu Hluttaw representative Daw San San Ei submitted a proposal calling on the Union government to expand the organizational set-up of the Public Health Department to ensure that all people can access health care services.
