Joint Statement of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Speaker Thura U Shwe Mann and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Chairperson of the National League for Democracy
1. In response to the written request, dated 10.11.2015, of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi for an exchange of views based on a commitment to national reconciliation, a meeting took place at the Office of the Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker from 09.00 hrs. to 10.15 hrs. on 19 November 2015.
2. At the meeting, the following agreements were reached:
(a) To uphold the honour of the country and ensure the peace of mind of the people by implementing their will, as expressed through the General Elections of 8 November, smoothly and systematically;
(b) To continue to carry out, in accordance with the Hluttaw motto, “the People’s voice is the Hluttaw’s voice; the People’s will is the Hluttaw’s will; the People’s hopes will be fulfilled by the Hluttaw”, the responsibilities accorded through election by the people;
(c) In organizing the Hluttaws, profound consideration will be given to the goals of national reconciliation and ethnic unity;
(d) By conferring and cooperating on matters related to the Hluttaw and other vital concerns, good, harmonious precedents of mutual respect and trust can be established;
(e) To continue to confer and cooperate on matters related to the convening of the second sessions of the Hluttaws and to issue a joint statement.
