At the Lower House on Tuesday, an urgent proposal calling for the union government to quickly halt military operations in Kehsi township of Loilem district, Shan State was issued.
U Sai Um Hsai Mai from Kehsi township said clashes were responsible for the displacement of civilians,who are now taking refuge in nearby monasteries. Over 200 people have been displaced and among them Buddhist monks, he said.
In response to him,Deputy Minister for Defence Maj-Gen Kyaw Nyunt explained that the commander-in-chief of defence services has always strived for regional peace and stability,expressing his understanding that civilians are innocent victims of clashes between government forces and armed groups in areas lacking peace. He also pledged prompt action by watching the incident in question closely.
The Upper House on Tuesday approved of a national education bill, calling the bill a national education system bill capable of producing acceptable human resources and promoting the language, literature, culture,arts, tradition and historical heritage of all ethnic groups residing in the State.
The Upper House also added a definition to the learner-centred approach in the national education bill, which reads the learner-centred approach is a teaching-learning process that requires teachers to employ effective teaching methods to help learners grow in the learning process and shapes a friendly relationship between teachers and students.
Other issues discussed were the prospect of upgrading the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway to ensure a safety and the prospect of landscaping Yangon and Mandalay like the capital city, Nay Pyi Taw.
