2nd Pyithu Hluttaw 6th regular session holds its 15th day meeting

The advantages of terrace farming was one of the issues discussed at yesterday ’s meeting of the Pyithu Hluttaw.

At yesterday’s meeting, U Hla Kyaw, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation replied to the question raised by U Thet Naung of Lahe constituency, “To prevent deforestation, loss of soil erosion due to rotation farming year after year and to conserve the natural environment, terrace farming in which various kinds of crops can be grown should be introduced in substitution. To do so, arrangements of model plantation fields by the use of technology were made. In the year— 2018-19 farming season, 5 acrea in Tikeyan village and 5 acres in Sanpya 49 miles village—10 acres in all will be implemented. In the villages—Gahone, Antpaw, Lankhin, Laungngauk, Tarlan and Htanparkhwe in Lahe Township, technology-used model terrace plantation fields will be implemented by laying down 5 year-project. Arrangements for educating techniques had been made to acquire the better growing habits of paddy, varieties of pulses and oil seeds including crops to be implemented in hillside agriculture system. Systematical uses of pedigree seeds, natural fertilizers and systems of protecting against insects were conducted 4 times a year by region-level experts.”

U Tun Tun Naing of Kani constituency put forward a motion to urge the Union Government for scrutiny committee on confiscated farming lands to settle disputes between original farmers and those who monopolized empty, virgin and vacant lands in dubious ways and means, which was respectively discussed by parliamentarians.

U Maung Maung of Htigyaing constituency discussed the motion submitted by U Tun Tun Naing in support. U Maung Maung said, “Farmers came to use lands for their survival, after cleansing wild land in forest reserve area, to solve the problems caused by shortage of farming land and land erosion due to floods. It is necessary for the forestry department to give away the ownership of those lands which are worth abandoning. There are many conflicts among villagers and staff of the forestry department. In villagers’ opinions, smuggling of wood and forest products by vehicles went unarrested by authorities concerned. They had a feeling each that there was unfair deeds of authorities over grass-root people. On solving the problems under the concept of Parliamentary Over-Sight. Parliamentarians found it difficult to deal with issues. So, I hereby discuss the motion in support, with a view to be well convinced and fill in the blanks where necessary, as for the respective Ministries.”

Deputy Minister U Hla Kyaw and presenter of the motion agreed to put it on record for monitoring. Speaker of the Hluttaw announced to monitor it.

16th day meeting of 2nd Pyithu Hluttaw 6th regular session will continue to be held on 23 November, it was learnt.
