The Speaker of the Pyithu Hlut-taw visited Phyu, Nyaunglebin and Daik-U townships in Bago Region on Friday, urging local communities to help ensure a successful 2015 general election. Thura U Shwe Mann said although the Union Election Commission is mainly responsible for staging the 8 November ballot, citizens must also contribute to the electoral process. Thura U Shwe Mann also said Myanmar was on the path to building a peaceful democratic nation, with the country practicing market-oriented economics for over four years. Bago Region Chief Minister U Nyan Win and local authorities explained development programmes in the region.
