No cases have been referred to the Anti-Corruption Commission since the adoption of the Anti-corruption Law on 7 August 2013, Supreme Court Judge U Soe Nyunt told the Lower House on Thursday.
The Supreme Court Judge was responding to a question raised by a representative concerning complaints about bribery. The Action Committee Against Corruption had sent three corruption complaints to the Office of the Chief Justice of the Union, he added.
Regarding a complaint against the township justice and joint township justice of South Dagon Township with accusations of bribery, no evidence or irregularities were found, according to the union chief justice.
There was also no “eyewitness” as requested by the government for another complaint accusing the office assistant of Kyaukdaga Township Court of taking K 100,000 bribe for a gambling case, but the assistant was transferred to another post as a warning, he said.
The union chief justice said there was no proved wrong doing in another case that accused Kyaukdaga Township Justice of irregularities, but the justice was transferred to another tonwnship. A total of 13 complaints were received by the Office of the Union Chief Justice between 7 August 2013 and 22 April 2014.
Out of them, seven complaints were found to have accused wrongly while the rest are still under investigation. As a result, no cases were sent to the Anti-Corruption Commission which would take legal action against offenders under the Anti-Corruption Law, the union chief justice concluded.
Other topics discussed at the Lower House on Thursday included food safety and amendments of bills, including the Inland Water Transport Bill. The Upper House session on Thursday focused on vehicle licenses, transfers of teachers to rural areas, and amendments of bills.
The ninth sessions of the Upper House and the Lower House concluded on Thursday, with remarks of speakers urging the representatives to keep in touch with local people in their constituencies and fulfill their needs even during the parliament holidays.
